Personal stories

Increase confidence in your team

For whom?

This session is for you if you want to increase mutual trust in your team. Trust is the basis of effective cooperation. It is essential to encourage a healthy conflict in your team, in your department or in your organisation. It increases the chance that you or your colleague, who has a different opinion, will dare to speak out. You also increase the chance of asking for and offering help in your team. Ultimately, it also benefits the results of your team and organisation.

Learning objectives

Increased mutual trust in the team. This is due to the personal openness and vulnerability shown by the team members when telling their personal stories.

Better mutual understanding. Team members better understand where someone's behaviour is coming from. As a result, they look at their colleague with ``softer eyes``.

Increasing the chance of a healthy conflict through increased trust and mutual understanding. Team members dare to speak out more towards each other.

Approach

A creative approach

To increase trust in your team, you and your colleagues share personal stories with each other. You tell your story using five drawings. No stress! Are you now thinking: “but I can’t draw at all”? Then just give it a try and, if necessary, use sentences, words, numbers or other beautiful characters. It’s about getting to know each other and each other’s vulnerable side better, not about who draws the most beautiful picture.

Eyes closed

You make the five drawings after a guided visualisation. During this guided visualisation, you close your eyes and imagine your personal journey based on a series of questions. The focus is on your past, present and future and on what helps and hinders you.

Sharing personal stories

After the guided visualisation and drawing, you and the other team members share personal stories with each other. The listeners may share the impact of the stories with the storyteller, without taking an advisory role.
